BIRP returns positive report
The NOAO independent panel review
report, linked below, was received, and
it is very encouraging.
NOAO instituted a review panel, the Blanco
Instrumentation Partnership Review panel, aka
the BIRP, to review the DES proposal and advise
the NOAO director whether the proposal should be
accepted and whether it merits 30% of the Blanco time
for the 5 years of the project.The committee felt that the instrument as described will be an asset to the National Observing system, and that it and the Dark Energy Survey archive will enable an enormous amount of science over a broad spectrum of interests in the NOAO user community.
